We found our motivation in music

Read this while listening to some music…

Sometimes I find myself wandering around without destination but in search of something called motivation. That’s a struggle we all deal with everyday of our lives, I guess. Sadly, back in the day it was nowhere to be found.

The first thing that such thing happened to me, I returned to my room (defeated). I put on my headphones and started listening to music while reading articles about motivation.

Happily, the more I read, the more I got motivated. Maybe it was because I was learning, maybe it was because of the articles but maybe (and this is my favorite theory) it was the stuff coming in through my ears and filling my soul, music. Prayer by Bloc Party was the song, but the rush all mine.

Although music does not enhance performance (mental or physical) per se, it has physiological benefits. It evokes a sense of success on the individual by triggering positive emotions, it helps us bear with the negative outcomes of life.

That was the moment when I decided that (for me, at least) motivation is an illusion. It is that way since it’s an induced state of mind. But that illusion will help you push in order to get to your goal. Because of that decision I realized that music can become one of your best sources of motivation, and it also became a crucial companion in my journey to achieve my goals. According to research it does make you feel more powerful.

Well, that’s my experience. No scientific bases, all empirical. But the articles I read do show the relation between motivation and music.

The sole purpose of this article is to encourage to silence with music all the noise that takes away your motivation.

We want you to share (in the comments) the song that you listen to when you’re blue and without motivation. Even better, share with us that powerful playlist you listen to when you’re in the zone and pushes you to go further.

Allow me to begin with this exercise, these are my 5 motivation songs (beware, some of them are a bit heavy) and I do they work for you too:

-Smoking Snakes by Sabaton

-Butterflies & Hurricanes by Muse

-Verge by Owl City

-Eagleheart by Stratovarius

-Deep Silent Complete by Nightwish

Why not listen to some of these while going on aiesec.org and finding your own opportunity to make this week better?
