Electrolux and AIESEC today announced a joint initiative to mobilize youth for global volunteering projects around the world to support the UN Sustainable Development Goal number 12, Responsible Consumption & Production.
The Electrolux Group and AIESEC have teamed up to mobilize young leaders all around the world to fight for and achieve SDG #12, Responsible Consumption and Production. The focus of the partnership lies in taking action on food sustainability issues, by contributing in addressing global challenges such as hunger, poor nutrition, food waste and responsible consumption. Through this, Electrolux is seeking to fulfill its promise to Shape living for the better and work for better solutions, better operations and a better society in a way that is also aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The first step of the company was to set up the Electrolux Food Foundation in 2016, creating a long-term platform for funding initiatives in this area and engaging employees around the world. The first initiative financed by the Food Foundation and the core of the collaboration is represented by the Feed the Planet initiative, which enabled to drive a number of food projects around the world.
“Feeding the world’s growing population in a sustainable way is one of the greatest challenges of our time. We believe Electrolux, as a world-leader in a kitchen appliances, has a responsibility and opportunity to contribute on issues related to cooking and food consumption” said Jonas Samuelson, President and CEO.
The objectives are to inspire better food consumption and cooking habits among consumers and professionals, maximizing sustainable and healthy choices while contributing to a reduction of negative impacts. Other aspects are to support people in need – in putting better, more nutritious food on the table, providing advice on cooking on a tight budget, offering workplace education and supporting emergency relief efforts through Worldchefs without Borders. AIESEC, which is promoting and driving youth participation in the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals, will provide volunteers to help manage projects on the ground. In 2018 Electrolux and AIESEC aim to mobilize more than 50 Global Volunteers in over 5 countries across the world.
Next to the volunteering activities, Electrolux and AIESEC promote awareness and understanding about responsible consumption through an #ActSustainably campaign. More information about the campaign and opportunities for young people to act towards SDG #12 can be found at youth4globalgoals.org/responsible-consumption-and-production.
