4 reasons to hire a millennial

with No Comments

We’ve heard it all before: ‘millennials in the workplace are lazy, impatient and entitled’. I mean, who hasn’t watched the famous video by Simon Sinek? The last time I saw the video it had about 7 million views on Youtube and it had left a lasting impression as it was shared all over my Facebook timeline. Simon talks a little about the negative behavior of millennials in the workplace and why they have these behavioral patterns. While I agree with this video and information, I must, however, show that we as millennials deserve to be given a chance to work in the workplace too. Here are four reasons why you should hire a millennial.

1. Millennials are highly educated

Now more than ever, millennials are attending and graduating from tertiary education institutions. According to ourworldindata.org, there has been nearly a doubling of tertiary education enrollment for both genders from 38.8% in 2000 to 62% in 2014 for Europe and Central Asia. This means that millennials come out of school with more skills now than any other generation before us.

2. Millennials are tech savvy

Yes, Simon Sinek was somewhat right. Millennials actually are more attached to their smart devices than any other generation, but this is actually one of their strengths. Millennials are known to be more tech savvy and able to multitask between different tech platforms compared to other generations. These are skills that are needed, as technology is the future and companies need to adapt to having tech savvy employees in order to keep up with the future reality.

3. Social media is their best friend

Millennials are very active on social media and for this reason they know how to use social media to reach consumers too. No other generation knows better how to use social media as a tool for marketing than millennials. They know what is currently trending and know how to engage with other millennials as well as other generations to convert them into customers. This is a huge asset as most companies need to have the right workforce in order to market their brand.

4. Millennials are amazing and fabulous

Lastly, millennials are amazing and fabulous. And not only that, they are more resilient than ever. According to goldmansachs.com, millennials are the least earning, most debt bearing generation and yet they show up and show out when it comes to work. Millennials also make sure that in whatever organization they are working in, they cause a positive impact and uphold companies to a higher moral standard. This is because they expect companies to work towards a known cause and not only for profit.

So there you have it. 4 reasons why you should hire Millennials. I mean, why wouldn’t you hire us anyway? By the way, don’t get me wrong, I love me some Simon Sinek.
