Rotterdam, the Netherlands: On 18th of April, AIESEC in partnership with UN-Habitat launched a new online game, The Youth 4 Global Goals Game (Youth4GG Game), which aims to engage more young people with the Sustainable Development Goals and to inspire youth to make a positive contribution to the SDGs in real life. The Game was pre-launched at the ECOSOC Youth Forum in UN Headquarters in January 2018 and is now available online.
Since the adoption of the New Urban Agenda in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016, UN-Habitat started a project with AIESEC to develop the game to spark the real action of young people in their cities that will contribute towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. Youth4GG Game educates users about the Sustainable Development Goals and the challenges that go along with achieving the targets and indicators.
With over 1.8 billion young people capable of contributing to the New Urban Agenda, we need to rely on technology as a channel for young people to participate.
‘In a time when connectivity is the new norm, Internet is a given, and young people are only engaged with dynamic and fun content, we believe that one of the strongest tools for advocacy and engagement is a simple game. It’s time to walk the talk and speak the language of youth if we want to engage young people towards the SDGs and activate them to take a stand on issues that truly matter for humanity’, says Abdelrahman Ayman, Global President of AIESEC.
The final outcome of the game is to give young people ideas on how to take immediate and practical actions while building their commitment to continue habits that enable the achievement of the SDGs. Through this game, young people have the freedom and flexibility to start working immediately and to ensure that every young person out there gets the opportunity to do so. The Game allows generating data evidence of youth participation in the SDGs by reporting back on the positive actions made by the users in real life.
The Game is available on Youth 4 Global Goals website.
